We lost John Burmeister to cancer in 2022. And we miss him dearly. But his passion for ALS patients lives on through your support of The John and Susan Burmeister ALS Volunteer Memorial Fund.

In 2017, Rockin4ALS was truly blessed when John & Susan found a home with the volunteers of Rockin4ALS. Our organization, based in Madison, Wisconsin, has raised funds at more than 60 events throughout Wisconsin. For the past 12 years, Rockin4ALS and The ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter have been close partners, and all our funds go to the Chapter.

John & Susan began their dedication to ALS patients in 2017 at the annual Rockin For A Cure ALS benefit. They were there to join with Alumni of the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps in honoring three ALS victims who were former members of the Madison Scouts. John was also an Alum of the Madison Scouts, and John was immediately supportive. The connection between the Brotherhood of the Madison Scouts and ALS patients is rock solid — And our message to ALS patients is clear: “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

For those who know John & Susan, it’s no surprise that right after their first “Rockin’ For a Cure,” they quickly devoted their passion and charm to the Rockin Family — and they left an indelible mark. We’re so grateful because John and Susan were also dedicated to many other great causes.

Throughout the next five years, John & Susan worked hard for ALS patients, creating wonderful decorations at the next three “Rockin For A Cure” benefits, and providing decorations at Madison’s first annual ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter Walk To Defeat ALS. They also volunteered at the Rockin4ALS Drop the Puck On ALS Capitols Hockey Game and our Strike Out ALS Mallards Baseball Game.

In 2020, John and Susan joined the Rockin4ALS team of volunteers for the Birkebeiner Cross Country Ski Race, where volunteers of the ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter gave out energy drinks and gel packets, and water and encouragement, and cheered on the ski competitors at this exciting and heart-warming fundraiser!

John & Susan often joined the Rockin4ALS Board Meetings, pushing Rockin4ALS to new heights with their novel ideas. At his last Rockin’ For A Cure benefit, John passionately led one of his novel fundraising games, and John and Susan concocted a specialty drink fundraiser that was as genuine as the creators.

John & Susan enriched our lives, and “put gas in our tanks” while helping ALS patients in Wisconsin.

John has left a huge hole in the hearts of the Rockin Family and The ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter. But his passion for ALS patients lives on through your support of The John and Susan Burmeister ALS Volunteer Memorial Fund.
